Food Journal (may-june) - Dami + Little Taiwan

This post will be about Taiwanese Restaurants...
1. Dami @ Sungai Long
weee my fave place to go whenever I'm in Sg Long to fetch my cousin.
I had reviewed their food before, but I shall do it again coz they actually renovated the shop, yes, Upgraded it..And changed their menu as well..
tried out some new things that weren't in their previous menu

Shihlin Chicken Chop with Plum Powder / 士林鸡排饭
Yummy! The chicken was awesome, crunchy and juicy plus there's plum powder (酸梅粉) on top. Lightly spicy and lightly sour-ish. NICE!
The rice was also well cooked. Really delicious!

One of the main difference after their renovation was their drinks!
well they had all the bubble tea before, but now, they have even more flavors and other types of drinks to choose from. They even set up a bubble tea counter infront of the shop.

Pearl Milk Tea with Molasses / 黑糖撞珍奶
Nice one! So far this is my first time trying this, so I suppose this is the shop's specialty.
Just like other derivatives of milk tea drinks, this one that uses Molasses is really good as well.
Has a very rich sugar taste, but not over-sweet.

Daddy's Fave Drink
Green Milk Tea with Red Bean 红豆抹茶
I loved Chatime's but this one is really good too!!
Especially the redbeans, i'm not a big fan of redbean but I really do like the red beans that they use, it's crunchy and sweet. And they are pretty generous with the amount of red beans. Nice nice!

Genmaicha Green Milk Tea
also similiar to Chatime's..
Love the Brown Rice flavor and the light scent of green tea.
Thumbs Up!

2. Little Taiwan - Tea Series
this is really "YumCha"
went to Little Taiwan @ 1 Utama
Decided to try out something special :D
so yea, we had Flower Tea

Sweet Osmanthus Flower - RM8.90
the menu says it's good for the face and also for healthy body
the taste well....Kind of..weird, probably because it's new to me.
Yes the only flowers that I eat are Rose and Chrysanthemum
so this Osmanthus Flower...well...not so nice haha
But it's still okay afterall, not like you will vomit after the 1st sip
The flower looks pretty though :D

Rose Tea - RM6.90
Basically tasteless
but the scent!! awesome!
I guess that's why people use flowers for perfume instead of food lol
anyways, the scent alone is really good, smelling it makes me full i dunno why.

Food Journal (May-June) - Part 5 Western

1. Organice Recipe's Vegetarian Western Food
I've written reviews about their Chinese Dishes before, and just like the chinese dish, the western dishes were awesome too! This restaurant really has its standards....the food were consistently good!

 Carbonara Mushrrom Spaghetti - RM17
I dont exactly know what kind of cheese they use, but the cheese scent is just so so nice!!
It goes well with the mushrooms, the mushrooms were crunchy and juicy, yes juicy. The spaghetti, well cooked, nice texture. Even the salad on the side is nice, crunchy lettuce with honey drizzled over.

This is also my fave
Wedges - RM10
trust me the wedges is like....BEST
I know KFC got good wedges but this one...super crunchy and I think they use fresh potatoes. the wedges have a sweet starchy flavor of potatoes. Well it cost 2 times the price of KFC cheesy wedges, but it's really worth it and look at how big the portion is!

Organic Recipe
B3-07-09, Casa Utama,
Lorong Lebuh Bandar Utama,
PJU 6A, 47400 PJ

Next, a restaurant that I hadn't visit for ages
2. The Ship @ Damansara Utama
one of the reasons we didn't really visit throughout these years is because there were many people saying that their food quality is getting worse
plus my family is not very much a big fan of western food, so we seldom go there.
But my brother loves western food, and it was his birthday...
we were scratching our heads whether to go back to this place or not, or find another place
My dad had faith in them and decided to give it another try...

sadly, they did not prove us wrong...

Seafood Chowder and Garlic Bread
My fave for the day
The soup still taste awesome!
Full of seafood flavors, from squid prawns mussles
You know all these have a sweetness and it matches the sweet-sour tomato taste
and the spring onions on top

Cheese Baked Fish
I find this one nice but my mom disliked it...yea she's not a fan of cheese or milky stuff
Love the fish and cheese combination but I think the fish seems abit...not so fresh
If they use fresh ones, the sweet taste of fish would have been awesome!

Seafood Platter
with Softshell Crab, Prawn, Fish Fillet, Squid
Soft shell crab and Fish fillet were really good! Crunchy yet juicy...
the prawn is quite nice as it had a very strong garlic scent but abit overcooked...
The squid well, abit disappointing....hard and kinda tasteless

Fillet Mignon (medium rare)
err...love the juiciness, but my gosh, it takes some skills to cut the steak
and err...this is my first time trying mushroom sauce on steak..
the mushroom is totally tasteless!
is it suppose to be that way??
the steak well, the texture...kinda hard to chew...took me quite some time before i swallow it haha

Anyways, I don't know what exactly happened to The Ship.
I remember I loved this place a lot when I was a kid.
Is it because my taste buds changed/mutated?? or the food is really changing...
I'm not saying that it become really really bad, it's just, not as good as before...

However, I still love the place. So cute...the ship cabin interior, Thumbs Up!

Food Journal (May-June) - Part 4 Dessert

 weeee sweetie stuff, me like

1. Mille Crepe @ Food Foundry
I remember it was Mother's Day, wanted to go out to have supper at Food Foundry but sadly their crepes were all sold out. mom promised she will buy for us next day, n i kinda doubt she will haha Then the next day, mummy really went to "da bao: crepes for me and my brother....3 crepes summore....so "gam dong" ahhhh

Chocolate, Vanilla and Strawberry Flavor Crepe
each at RM9.00

Basically the strawberry flavor is the best. The other 2 seems very very plain and you dont really wanna eat anymore after the 3rd bite, i think it's because of the sweetness...
Anyways, it's still very yummy, the pancake crepe has a very good texture.
Love the sour-sweet taste of the strawberry crepe.
If I havent try Nadeje, I would have think this is the best.
But honestly, Nadeje is slightly better...in terms of the flavor and cream texture.
Chocolate flavor was too heavy, if you want something with a chocolate taste, go try Nadeje's Praline Lover! (click link to see review)
since I dont live anywhere near Nadeje, this Food Foundry is a very good place to have crepes :D
Thumbs up.

2. Tasty One Taiwanese Desserts @ Kota Kemuning
one of the owners of the shop is an old friend of my mother
since my cousins were here too, we went there to have desserts after our dinner
basically it's something similar to snowflakes, sells all kinds of Taiwanese desserts
but this one is definitely home style, all the taroballs are homemade

so sorry people, i couldn't remember the names for all these desserts....

This one is actually Taufu-fah with Shaved Ice, Taroballs, Sweet Potato Balls and Pearls
pretty nice, the taroballs are not bad
I think I would love it more if they add something sweet, like maybe caramel or some syrup lol
but if u like something healthy, with minimum sweetness, you would like this.

this one lerr....
Purple rice (紫米) and coconut milk with pearls and greenbean
not bad this one...since the purple rice and the toppings are kinda like tasteless, the coconut milk really enhanced their flavor without being too much...really good one.
The purple rice is quite crunchy.

This is Nice!!!
Taiwan's Red Bean Cakes -  台湾红豆饼
Actually there's different fillings other than redbean, there's cream custard, chocolate and pandan.
All are good seriously!! It's like cake but a bit more...dense and chewy...
the fillings are yummy too
however, the outer layer is abit, just abit greasy...

anyways, it's quite a nice place to try real taiwanese dessert, the owner is actually a Taiwanese! and like i said before, she made all the taroballs, taufu-fah and soy milk herself, so the taste is definitely lighter and more natural. and of course, less sweet...
There's free wi-fi and the environment is really good too, with cute drawings.

3. Tutti Frutti
wee....like finally I get to try Tutti Frutti
yes I know I'm slow haha...
Thanks to a friend who Belanja-ed me, or else I wouldn't know that Tutti Frutti is so nice...

Taro Flavor with Marshmallows and Cheerios!
Cheerios are awesome...
anyways, it taste like a super yummy Taro Ice cream...
I wouldn't know that it's Yogurt...
The taro taste is so rich, love it :D

2nd visit, went with my cousin...it was her first time as well.
I wanted Taro flavor again but it wasn't available...saddd
so tried the Raspberry one...

Cousin's Red Velvet Flavor Yogurt with Kiwi, Cornflakes and Cheerios
this one is pretty amazing, it taste like ice cream cake...nothing yogurt at all LOL
very heavy milky taste...

On the other hand, my Raspberry flavor taste exactly like Yogurt lol
Sour.
The cereals kinda tone down the sour-ness...
but it's still sour...my cousin call it the "healthy taste"
at the end, we mixed both flavor together and surprisingly, it taste really really good....it's like yogurt cake, good combination! better than anyone of them alone!

4. Mochi Sweets
well it's a gift from ONECard
never tried it before coz I wasn't really willing to pay 4 bucks for a small lil mochi (yes i very "giam siap")
But i guess it's good since I always see people buying it...

left - Black Sesame, right - Dark Chocolate
it's not bad actually, but a bit over-rated.
It's kinda over-gummy, sticky...hard to chew
but the fillings were good, love the sesame one...
as long as u dont mind the chewing, this mochi is quite okay
but,
I still prefer my Grandma's Peanut Mochi...:D
ahhhh I miss my grandma now...

Food Journal (May-June) Part 3 - Drinks

drinks....

1. Share Tea
My fave bubble tea shop from now on...
Not that Chatime is bad, but the drinks here seems to be better than Chatime
well just my opinion though, different shops may have different taste.
But I really love their Rock Salt Cheese Cream drinks larrr, Thumbs up!!

Wenshan Tea topped with Salted Cream Plus Mini Pearls - RM6.90
Love the salted cream, what I usually do is, I'll take a sip of the cream then a sip of the tea...
Love the Salty-Bitterness...The tea has a very nice scent :D

Classic Pearl Milk Tea and Vanilla Milk Tea - RM5.90 each
The pearl milk tea is sheauwen's all time fave.
For Vanilla Milk Tea, it's like a sweeter version of Pearl Milk Tea
sweet in a good way of course, pretty nice.

WinterMelon Tea topped with Rock Salt Cheese Cream (L) - RM6.90
My fa-fa-favorite...
The wintermelon tea is moderately sweet, u can even ask for reduced sweetness if u want
feels very very refreshing...plus the sweet-salty cheese cream...awesome arrr....

Love their mini pearls...soft, chewy...imagine your mouth become full of pearls in just one sip hehe

btw, there's 10% discount for students

2. Chatime
a REvisit

TieGuanYin Latte - RM5.90
well I seldom go to Chatime nowadays, not because I found Share Tea
I still love their drinks larr...it's just that the QUEUE! homg...especially the one at ou
so yea went TS's Chatime (on a weekday) and grabbed the now-my-fave TieGuanYin Latte
I must say this one is really nice and special...
I love milky taste but sometimes milk tea can be abit too...heavy
then I found this, perfect combination...love the bitter-ish tea and smooth creamy milk taste :D
btw, I still love the Brown Rice Green Milk Tea :D

For list of outlets

3. Each A Cup

Green Tea Pingo 绿茶奶盖- RM5.90
Sorry this photo abit LQ
anyways this is from Each A Cup
one of my fave Bubble Tea shop when Chatime haven't come into scene yet.
I use to love their flavored milk tea a lot.
anyways, I passed by their stall that day and decided to give it a try again
What I'm impressed with is that they use one tea bag for one cup of drink, no re-use
yes the tea was made instantly using fresh and new tea bags
I doubt other bubble tea do so, they probably prepared the tea beforehand
oh this green tea is actually not bad, love the foam on top
green tea scent is very strong, not too sweet, just nice.

Food Journal (May-June) - Part 2 Central Market (Pasar Seni)

My favorite place to study during exam period was Kuala Lumpur Memorial Library
which is right beside the Merdeka Square
went there almost everyday during exam times, and Central Marker is just around the corner, so to save time, me and my friends always walk there to have our lunch...
and here's some of the food that I tried so far...

Most of the food were from Central Market's Food Court
that's like the place where I get to try all kinds of unique food, I think most originated from Malay tradition..
and most of them taste really good! and yes that's when I will feel like Malaysia is such an awesome country with all kinds of people and all kinds of food!

First up, Prawn Bihun

This one is from the stall that sells drinks...i remember it's called Kopitiam
well, a bit disappointed, the soup does not have much taste, probably didn't put enough prawns...
the bihun was okay, everything was so-so only...
Nothing much...
cost around RM6

 Buttermilk Fish and rice
from Western food Stall
Thumbs up for this one, see the portion is actually quite big! and the taste is not bad, smooth and creamy, not too fatty-oily. comes with a soup.
cost around RM10

Mee bakso
something very very new to me...
I googled it, and it seems to be like a Malay/Indonesia Food
this is really not bad weih!!! See the pieces? they are actually meat balls...huge meat ball cut into pieces. There's small meat balls as well.
I'm not sure what exactly they add into the meat ball, but the texture was okay, slightly harder than chinese meatballs...very chewy and quite salty.. Good thing that it's served with plain noodles in meatball soup, so it's not too heavy. Plus lots of spring onions, nice ahhh!!!
Cost around RM6

Mee Rebus
full of peanut taste!!!! i think they used onions for the gravy, so there's a bit of sweetness, goes well with the noodles and tofu...
but this one is abit too salty...just abit larr...
still love the think peanut-ful gravy
cost around RM6 as well

Kaya and Butter Toast from Kopitiam
well, okay lorr....nothing special hehe...instead,
the Teh on the right was better LOL

Turkish Ice Cream - Chocolate + Durian
cost around RM5
Thanks to sheauwen.
This is something new as well, this is like a more chewy ice cream, u can see the texture is more sticky....
and yes i googled it, it has resistance to melting, which explains the stickiness
The taste is quite good, just like ice cream....durian-choco flavor is quite a good combination actually LOL

Black Pepper Lekor
yes this is one of the best things!!
Love the sauce they put on it, there's ketchup, mayonnaise, and i think the mayonnaise has something sour, probably vinegar....really good combination, plus the lekor itself has black pepper taste...everything goes well! and lekor is crunchy on the outside. and I like that it's bite-sized instead of the long rectangular ones...should try this out!

Central Market Food Court
Mezanine Floor
Jalan Hang Kasturi
Kuala Lumpur

I'm so sorry that I couldn't remember the price for all the food above...but what I can say is
the Food Court's food is actually slightly expensive than usual, probably because it's a tourist spot.
The snacks at Kasturi Walk are less expensive. Hope to go there again :D
oh oh, i must mention this, the food taste good, but honestly I think some of them have flavorings like MSG in it or probably high salt content, coz i felt thirsty after the food. Just my thought anyway.

anyways, here some photos taken when I went to KL Library
