The Hare @ Mount Austin

Hey readers, sorry for the MIA, been busy despite exams are over. And before I knew it, Christmas is already over. Anyway, feels good to be back to blogging, and I have so much to share!!! But as usual....gotta update my JB Cafes list and this time, a visit to bunnyland...

The Hare by Sugar On Top @ Mount Austin

Classic Churros -- RM12.90
Personally, I prefer this over their much raved signature waffles. It's crunchy, yet fluffy on the inside, with a burst of the sweet vanilla taste. Very addictive flavor to me.

SOT Signature Charcoal Waffles -- RM17.90
If you're looking for something healthy and instagrammable, this has to be it. The waffles were nicely cooked, but I'm not sure how the charcoal makes it more special than normal waffles, healthier maybe? The fruits does make me feel less guilty about eating this dessert haha. Blueberry ice cream was delicious!

Iced Americano -- RM7.90
I became a fan of Americano these days, thanks to 2 days 1 night haha.

Green Tea Milk -- RM9.90

with the sis

Life is good when you have two ladies delighting in sinful desserts haha

Personally think The Hare is a great place for an afternoon dessert, love its bright and homey interior, white walls, with plenty of sunlight in. The outdoor area has a garden concept which compliments its name "The Hare".

Oh Don't Forget to take a photo with The HARE!

With an opposite vibe against the Hare, is The Workshop Cafe and Bar by Gran Fiesta in Mount Austin as well. The dimly lit interior with metal chairs, kinda like some secret society meeting ground haha. Forgive me, I forgot the name of what I ordered. But I would love to recommend this place if you love burgers and always find other shops offering too small of a portion.

I forgot the exact name but this is a Grilled Chicken Burger. and this is no ordinary chicken burger, more like Chicken Chop with Buns and Wedges. They pretty much put a chicken chop in a burger! Result: Super Full Belly

My cousin's burger with nacho cheese.

Americano again hehe, though I was abit shocked by the presentation, but I guess it serves the "workshop" theme.

Will visit again, especially when I have a very empty stomach haha.

Another semester gone and it's my final winter break :( Back at home sweet home now and it kills me to think that I wouldn't be able to come back as frequent as I wish. #hardtruthsofworkinginaforeignsoil To you people who are staying with your parents, be grateful and treasure your precious moments together.

On Christmas Day, I went to visit my granma who suffered a stroke recently. Saw her small figure, lying on the white bed, with tubes attached to her nostrils. She can be heard but none of us can understand her. But she still smiled when I look into her eyes. And at that moment, there was an instant surge of sorrow mixed with joy that made me almost teared up. Part of me feels sad for her condition, lying on a bed facing four walls and no one to talk to most of the time. Especially for a woman who has been so vocal all her life. There was nothing I can do for her. But at the same time I just feel grateful that she's still alive and smiling at me, she's been so brave and strong, and she's been making good progress in recovery. Just hope she will be able to recover asap and return home for CNY. We may not have one of those super-close granma-granchildren relationship, but she's still my dad's mother, without her, there's no me, can't wait to hear her calling my name again. But at the end of the day, all I could think of is to Thank God for His blessings, how He's been looking after my family despite me being away from them. Thank you and Thank you. :)

Christmas is the season to feel awesome about buying stuffs with cute packaging hahahahah
eyhhh in my defense, they are not for me k, most of them are gifts :D

The Coastal Settlement & Chock Full of Beans

I think I've only traveled to the east for like a few times despite being my fourth year here. Hopefully that gives you an idea of how Pulau NTU gets its name haha. But I was doing my internship during the break and I bought the unlimited train pass. Traveling from one end of the green line till the other seems to be the best way to fully utilize it hehe.

It was a day well spent with the friends back from home, checking out the eastern coasts. But please don't expect like white beaches and blue waters haha. Btw all photos belongs to Vienna and Dan who were our photographers of the day.

The Coastal Settlement
Started our day with a lunch at The Coastal Settlement, a unique dining place located amidst the quiet neighborhood along Netheravon Road. The restaurant has old school interiors, with loads of furniture and objects from the old times. Give you the down-the-memory-lane sensation when I first stepped in but as you look closer, it has a very homey feeling. Love the vibe and I couldn't just leave without taking some photos haha. But the food was pricey given its taste, so I guess the bulk of the price goes to enjoying the nostalgic ambience.

Address: 200 Netheravon Rd, Singapore 508529

My favorite photo of the day. Treasure hunting with the girls.

Rosti with Sausage - S$23 and Hazelnut Latte - S$7

Pulled Pork Sandwich - S$23 and Mocha - S$6
Tender pulled pork strips with a savory sauce, together with soft and runny poached eggs. Quite good but....the price tag...

Continue Dora the Explorer game.

Found this pretty dressing table with the golden clock and candelabra, immediately thought of Beauty and the Beast!

Changi Boardwalk and Changi Beach
From TCS, we walked along Netheravon Road and continued into the Changi Boardwalk for a stroll along the coasts. The so call Changi Beach isn't really a beach after all, just a small stretch. We continued to walk, the wind was pretty strong and we could smell of fishy ocean in the air haha. Ignore that, the view was still enjoyable, with planes flying here and there. Turns out Changi Village is much nearer than i expected, in no time I saw the familiar ferry jetty where I took a ride to Pulau Ubin. The waters are much clearer and blue at the Changi Beach Park.

Changi Village: Chock Full of Beans Cafe
Upon our discovery of Changi Village, Sheauwen immediately suggested to go CFOB for coffee break and there's a particular reason why -- The cute 3D Latte Art. Anyways Changi Village has loads of eateries and hipster cafes around the area. I suppose it's a great place to hang out during the weekends, a getaway from the busy city, enjoying an afternoon while peeking to the sea. You can even go Ubin i believe.

Address: 4 Changi Village Road #01-2090, 500004

Portobello Benedict -- S$13
A vegetarian alternative of Eggs Benedict :) Nothing can go wrong with Portobello Mushroom seriously, love the juicy and chewy taste.

Wasn't expecting much from 3D Latte, but this Baymax made my day. So cutee...

Seriously...how can coffee be so adorable?
From Olaf (clockwise): Maple Latte - S$5.00, Ice Mocha - S$6.50, Rose Latte - S$5.90, Vanilla Latte - S$6.50

In a nutshell, it was a wallet burning day, but discoveries were great haha. Awesome day to relieve all the stress from a working week. And special thanks to the buddies who are willing to travel with me :D

Atlas Coffee Embassy and Dream Cafe @ Mount Austin

Two more Cafes in JB which I have visited recently, just gonna do a short review since I don't have lots of photos. Each have a rather distinctive style from other existing hipster cafes in JB. One serves hearty breakfast, the other serves gourmet-style western main courses. Both places serve specialty coffee as well so it's also a great place for coffee lovers to get a hearty meal and caffeine fix.

Atlas Coffee Embassy
Love this homey cafe with a very bright and warm ambience. The cafe has white walls and light colored wooden furniture. Initially I was pretty shocked at the price of the food, just eggs, bacon and mushroom, how on earth could it cost this much? But damnnn it does taste good, very well seasoned and delicious.

Atlas Specialty Breakfast with 5 items - RM18.90

Blueberry Waffles - RM22.90

Mocha -- RM13.90

Dream Cafe
It's both a cafe and bar that serves a wide range of western main course. The Cafe has a rather artsy ambience, but kinda dark and gloomy. Anyways the food was okay. The Herb Butter Fish with Raisin Rice was good! If you are looking for a place for lunch or dinner with a rather special western menu unlike your usual carbonara and chicken chop, this is the place to go.

Bake Herb Butter Dory with Raisin Rice -- RM15.90

Dory Fish and Chips -- RM18.90

EXTRA: 三楼米粉 San Low Bihun at Mingji Restaurant 铭记家乡小炒
Just a rave haha, I have heard of this famous restaurant in JB and finally had the chance to try their popular fried bihun (vermicelli). Really wasn't expecting much, but again, I was impressed by how delicious a Fried Bihun can be! Super fragrant, with soft but not soggy strands of bihun, a burst of flavors from garlic, egg and the slightly chao-tar bihun. Niceeee!!

Palladium Cafe @ Eco Spring (EcoWorld) JB

2nd day of my short trip back to JB. The cousins brought me to this pretty place called Eco Spring by Eco World. It's a newly developed residential area with a strong European influence on the architecture of its houses and landscape. The pretty homes with green lawns, calm rivers and blooming flowers around, it does feel like entering into another world. I was lucky to have the chance to join the Eurofest. It's like a mini theme park which allows you to see and experience Italy's many iconic buildings and monuments in one place. Pretty impressed with the effort they put into this, the replicas look beautiful and it's definitely an instrgrammable venue. With Free Admission, I don't see why you will not like this event haha. After strolling around the Eurofest, we visited the much raved Palladium Cafe with its signature glass house that gained immense popularity due to its resemblance to the one in Jay Chou's MV.

Palladium Cafe @ Eco Spring Show Village, JB

Photo SPAM ahead, the Eurofest is just too good a place for photos hehe...

greeted by PISA leaning tower at the entrance.

candid shot by Zack

and that's what I was taking...
this place is just so pretty for any type of photos!

3D walls that look pretty realistic

and that's me, wondering when will I have the money to own one of those houses on the opposite side of the river.

even the walkway looks good in photos haha

Palladium Cafe is just a short walk away. Different from other Palladium Cafes, this one in Eco Spring has a different layout instead of just a cafe in a glass house. In fact, the glass house you see in the first photo, was just a wall with no doors or whatever.

The cafe counter is behind the glass house-wall
There's air conditioned seating area and outdoor seats on the other side.

The Cafe has coffee and cakes on its menu
We were just trying to quench our thirst from the hot weather so we ordered only drinks.
Joining the Eurofest gave us 3 15% discount coupons to be used in Palladium Cafe

Rose Babycino -- RM 9
Love the fact that they used this beaker mug, syncs with their concept of Palladium
This Rose Babycino was good, thanks to the delicious aroma of Rose syrup.
We ordered an Iced Hazelnut Latte (RM14) as well, but it was too bitter and I can barely smell or taste any coffee aroma.

Anyways drinks aside, why you should totally visit here... the ambience. Check this out:
Personally love the outdoor dining area
The surrounding greens, the spacious seats, there's fairylights hung over and Im sure it will look pretty at night

You can pick one of these cubicles for a more private hang out

The rooftop dining area

I was initially disappointed when I found out that the cafe wasn't really a glass house. But now I really think the outdoor dining area is much more prettier and enjoyable. The coffee may not be superb but the ambience really makes it an awesome chill out place and bet you will update your instagram if you are here. Definitely gonna visit again some day, probably at night.

Just so you know there are other cafes operated by ECO World which has the same glass house:
1. Palladium Cafe @ EcoSky, KL
2. Parque Cafe @ Eco Sanctuary, Selangor.
3. LAWN Cafe @ Eco Terraces, Penang
