The Sem 2 Diaries

I've been so occupied with posting about my cafehops that I forgot to talk about the fun memories I had in NTU sem 2

Owh yeah as much as I hate studying, Uni is still the best experience u can ever have in your whole life.

Took me some time to track down some photos...

So my last Uni-post ended in February, after CNY. Gosh when fun CNY hols was over, reality hit me so freaking hard. So many things to do in so little time. Loads of mid terms coming up, assignments and of course, club stuffs and of course camp stuffs. Some of my friends say I'd taken too many commitments, and yes I guess they're right. I didn't really measure how far I could go before taking up the tasks. But luckily, things went fine.

So some of the highlights for the semester:

1. FOC Outing: A day out with our camp committee members for bonding and of course fun. Went to the beautiful Sentosa beach and we enjoyed ourselves so much that even foreigners wants to join the fun.

haha this is my fave game
OK I didnt join them but this was one of my favorite team-building games
Roll over peepo!!

幸灾乐祸-ing

was given the privilege to MC as well
didn't do very well, hope it'll be better next time.

2. Malaysian Sports Day
A day where Malaysian Undergraduates in all parts of Singapore gather to have fun and build friendship through sports. It's a collab between MSA and AMCISA. Grateful to be part of the committee, took the role of Chief Programmer. We started our planning since the previous semester, and I must say, the planning was one of the toughest that I've faced in my life. Coz sports event is totally new to me, and I really lack experience when it comes to overseeing details of this event. Learned a lot from this, and of course, made lots of awesome friends from our committee. We had so many meetings, and for most of the time, I was gonna vomit blood coz there's so much to do, but still, I love our regular meetings, it's the time to meet my dear friends from both amcisa and msa.

and of course, we had fun along the way
CPs Day Out at Students Recreation Center
Lied on the running track and take photo like a boss
Can't open my eyes LOL

Our D-Day
great to work with all da friends from MSA and AMCISA

I was in charge of dodgeball, best game ever hehe
But I kinda screwed up, the rules were kinda messy.

another fun highlight: Tug of War

My fellow CPs
Yeap, I was burned...

and roasted
LOL laughed so hard whenever I see this photo

Thank you guys so much for helping out.

3. Earthlink Events
Loads of Earthlink events this semester. Kinda regret that I didn't join many of them. As boring as it may seem, all the environment conservation related events actually made me learn more and at the same time, it actually felt good to be part of all these events. For my division, I joined the Greening NTU campaign, where we aim to encourage people to reduce the use of disposable containers and plastic bags. Conveying the message was not exactly an easy task, as you need to convince people to change their usual perceived value of using disposables. Then there's Greenfest, a mega event that brings together all parties that are pursuing environment conservation works. Animal care, energy saving, reusable ink, recyclable phones, these are all the interesting topics that you can see at the Greenfest. It even got featured in Channel News Asia! Shortly after that, joined the Earth Hour outreach program, where we have knock at every single door to tell them about Earth Hour. We were only able to reach several blocks, but I'm sure all this little reminders will pay off someday. Then there's more of the fun events like Subcomm Appreciation Night and Trial Camp.

Earth Hour Outreach Program

Subcommittee Appreciation Night

Greening NTU Campaign

Greenfest Envisage

Trial Camp

So that pretty much sums up the main events throughout the semester. Let me just whine a little bit more about last semester. It was CRAZY. My calendar was densely scribbled. Meetings (loads of them), assignment deadlines, midterms, assignments from club activities...I really salute to all my other friends who are taking much more subjects and also much more commitments than me. Time management was really important, and I know I suck at it. I just can't give up facebook and dramas LOL

Anyway, now I recall, I only remember how I kept on whining about how stressed I was. But now I can't seem to remember exactly how much stress I felt at that time. Kay read the sentence one more time if you don't understand what I'm trying to say, haha. It's amazing how everything goes on no matter how stressed you are. And once it's over, you barely remember what you've been through. So don't push yourself or fear too much, keep calm and do whatever you can.

Okay enough with the whining, just a little bit more about my thoughts. Just wanna say thank you to all the people I've worked with throughout the semester. My assignment-mates, coursemates, friends, fellow committee members, bosses. Thanks for all the help that you've given, they maybe small but they all contribute to a meaningful memory.

Lastly, some photos with my dear 4-in-Love
these girls are the one who kept me strong and always cheering me up whenever I'm stressed out. Studying together, eat together, laugh together, all these mean so much to me.
Thanks for the company, can never imagine how things will be without you girls.

Movie Review of Maleficient

This movie will change how you read your Disney Classics, forever...

Have you ever wondered why on earth does Maleficent feel so offended when she wasn't invited to Aurora's royal christening? Out of the whole wide world, out of all Kingdoms, why King Stefan's daughter? How the hell did Aurora grew up nicely with fairies who can't do house chores? True love from a person who only met you once? This movie certainly explains the questions that arose in your head when you're old enough to question this classic fairy tale.

Synopsis:
The movie tells you the Maleficent side of Sleeping Beauty story. How the evil started to takeover her. You get to know Maleficent's past, her own fairy-tale, her sad story and the twisted fate between her and her first love. She was once a beautiful and kind fairy, after the betrayal of humans, she turned her world into a dark state. Filled with hatred and revenge, she indulges in evil and goes on to curse a princess. And the beautiful yet twisted story between Maleficent and Aurora goes on...

Angelina Jolie as the great villain Maleficent
Elle Fanning as Princess Aurora

My Thoughts:
hmmm there's quite a lot of aspects to talk about. On first impression, I thought the whole story was cool!! But when I started to match it with the original story, I was kinda torn between both stories. If you try to fit this movie into Sleeping Beauty, it pretty much ruins most of the best parts about fairy-tale, coz you're villain is not a villain, and your true love is not your true love! (watch and you'll know why) So yea, you really have to treat this movie as a whole new different movie, or else the storyline makes not much sense, coz Maleficent is like Aurora's Dad's Ex-lover. hmmmmm.......
Well certainly the movie was good at trying to give Maleficent more dimensions about her character, by explaining about how she was a kind fairy and how she had a painful past, her weakness, her vengeance.

Okay so now let's imagine this is a whole new movie, you'll love Maleficent's character for sure. I love how she's being portrayed as being wicked instead of just evil. She has her wits and principles that she believe in. And I love how she had the funny and mischievous side. Angelina Jolie certainly did a great job, making Maleficent such a charming villain. Yes you'll adore the evilness in her. Besides that, graphics were awesome, the dreamlike Moors with all the Disney-fied adorable creatures. Story, heartwarming though abit cliche, but certainly gives you the other ending that you secretly craved for.  Oh, Elle Fanning is beautiful, she's nothing close to the Aurora we see in our story books, but the way she acts, it's the lively, happy and kind young princess that the story books cannot show entirely. Love her smile.

one of my favorite scenes
cute young little Aurora meeting Maleficent
I just found out that the little girl is actually Angelina's daughter!! How sweet is that.

This scene where she appear at Aurora's royal christening, will definitely be the favorite of favorites
Mesmerized by her wickedness and evil-smile.

Overall, hmmm, it's really difficult for me to say whether it's nice. But if you treat this as a movie of itself, it's actually a really good movie. Rating: 6.5/10

Watched this movie at GSC 1u with the secondary school buddies. We went in at 8pm LOL
Guess we missed some of the parts.

Teadot @ Westgate

Fuhhhhh, finally done with the JB cafehop posts, now time to share with you guys some of my recent Cafehop experiences, outside of JB.

Teadot @ Westgate, Jurong East. .

It was the week after our finals ended, my girls who will be staying in SG for the summer were looking for jobs. After their busy jobsearch, time for some relax time and also window shopping with my dear uni-mates at JEM and Westgate.

Bought a cash voucher for Teadot at groupon.sg some time ago, and I guess it's the perfect time to use it. Teadot is a small corner shop at ground floor of Westgate. Simple and home-like furnishing, bright lights, little bit artsy.

and there you have it, the reason why we 4 girls can't stop snapping photos
It's for sure that you will get different coffee art for every latte that you order.
It's not your usual fern and love shape latte art, it's a cartoon on your coffee!
They are real smart to use these cute cartoons to win our hearts hehe

Dessert of the day...
Praline -- S$6.70
Delicious. Recommended by their staff, this is definitely one awesome dessert to go with coffee. Rich and thick chocolate that blends with the slightly fluffy and salty caramel layer, and there's some crunchy bits inside that contrast with the creamy texture. I won't call it a cake, it's definitely a type of sweet, a much more complex version of snickers maybe. It's not overly sweet as the chocolate balance off the sugar.

Matcha Latte -- S$ 6.80
this is mine, with super cute spongebob and patrick star on it. I was so reluctant to destroy the cartoon.
Anyways, this a like a huge cup of latte!!
Definitely twice the size of ordinary coffee shop's latte.
I couldn't finish it though it actually taste quite good.

Jingyi's Spongebob on a Matcha Latte

Tired Coffee Latte -- S$6.65
I have no clue about how the name came about. But I assume it's something to do with tired people drinking coffee to be less sleepy? anyways, love the baby-cute version of pikachu here. With sparkling eyes and chubby cheeks hehe. Latte taste okay, but abit too bitter, need some sugar to balance that.

Monkey art on Huan huan's Latte.

I think if you're going to spend one whole afternoon over there. chatting with your best friends or use your laptop or even read a book, this place is definitely worth going coz your beverage can probably last for the whole afternoon. The beverage is really large in size. For people who whined about how lattes are served in small cups, you might wanna come here for their mug-sized lattes. Besides the coffeeshop favorites, there's also breakfast menu and a wide range of creative beverages for you to choose from. and just like the name suggests, you definitely want to try out the different types of TEA BEVERAGE that they offer!

Like finally I can truly smile and enjoy a cup of latte after finals ended.

The JB Cafe Hop: Once Upon a Time @ JP Perdana

Our fifth stop and also the final cafe to be reviewed for my JB Cafe hop
The beautiful, dreamy, and fairy-tale like cafe

Once Upon a Time @ JP Perdana

The name gives you a pretty good clue about the place, it looks like a home that belongs to a story-book character. White walls, a garden filled with flowers, beautiful windows and doors. By the way this is not the only cafe that's situated in a double-storey house, there's The Gardens by JWC on the same street as well. And the unit on the left is undergoing some construction work as well, probably gonna be another cafe. Anyways, I kinda like this homey and garden-style cafe. Great place for gatherings with friends during a weekend afternoon, where you could enjoy good food and also sunshine.

There are two sections, it was drizzling so we went inside. The outdoor seats looks like a garden tea lounge, with white chairs, glass tables and also giant umbrellas.
There's only a limited number of seats inside, with wooden chairs and tables that matches the window frames. Looks like a comfy home to me.

the little brother studying

simple menu, made from recycled paper.

Cafe Latte -- RM8.90
omg the latte art, so many layers. I'm pretty sure the barrista here is a pro.
Taste good, they use beans from MyLiberica if I'm not wrong.

Esprit Sparkling Juice -- RM9.90
since we're gonna have lunch, so instead of coffee, ordered something refreshing, raspberry sparkling water. I can't remember when was the last time I had this, but I remember I use to save money (yes this drink was a luxury item when I was young) and buy this drink, just to collect the bottle haha...

Smoked Duck Aglio Olio -- RM17.90
Zack's. The spaghetti was okay, slightly chewy and spicy.

Bacon Aglio Olio -- RM15.90
Bacon is awesome larr!!! Pair it with the slightly spicy pasta, it gives a very strong flavor.

Bacon and Mushroom Baked Rice -- RM17.90
Smoked Duck Baked Rice -- RM18.90
Both baked rice looked the same so I only took one photo, and in fact, they taste kinda similar when it comes to the rice. Love it anyway, super fragrant and chewy cheese that melts and wraps the rice once it's in your mouth. Delicious. and it's not too heavy as well.

After the feast, we decided to head outside for a walk, and of course, snap away...
It was a weekday, so there was no people outside, snapped photos as if we own the place haha. But it truly is a great place, to take pretty pictures with your friends.

In terms of price and quality, this place is worth a visit, probably during weekends, just to take a break and enjoy yourself under the sunlight.

Extra: My Liberica Coffee REvisit
Cousin brought me to Liberica once again, saying that their coffee is one of the best in JB and deserves a second visit from me. I wasn't exactly a fan after my first visit, in fact i preferred Carffee over them. See previous review. But this time, my cousin proved me wrong!

Latte -- RM9.00

Rose Latte -- RM13.00
Thumbs up for this!!
This is like the only rose latte that taste like rose latte so far
Super strong rose aroma and there's an intense sweetness (not the sugar type), which goes well with the coffee's bitter taste.
And the texture is really smooth, wished I had a second one.
