JB Cafe Hop: Waku Waku 日式烈日松饼@ Mount Austin

Hi readers!
Time to intro another JB cafe. Have been very busy lately, I have tried to keep the JB cafe list updated despite unable to write full reviews. To add on to the list, I have two more pretty joints that deserves a full post.

As usual, was out with my JB cafe hop buddies -- the cousinssssss. Honestly I am still surprised that new cafes are still budding out and every cafe has something interesting to offer. The JB cafe scene is just happeninggggg.

Waku Waku 日式烈日松饼@ Mount Austin
First, to fill up our tummies for lunch, we've decided to go for desserts instead of a usual meal. Waku Waku serves waffles which are paired with a generous scoop of ice cream and atas-premium looking toppings like meringue cookies, marshmallow walnuts, chocolate ganache and more. Honestly, taste is not the only thing that matter now, the visually appealing waffles are enough to brighten up your day. Besides customized waffles, you could also try unique desserts like the japanese-style pudding and strawberry smoothies. I would say the dessert offerings over here can make a girl go nuts. Anyway, still would like to recommend the customized waffles, where you get to choose your waffle flavor (GreenTea, Plain, Chocolate), a scoop of ice cream, with interesting flavors like earl grey and black sesame, toppings that gives you the extra crunch and sweet and finally the sauce! All these for RM18.90! What's more, if you like Waku Waku's facebook page, you'll get an additional scoop of chocolate ice cream, which is what we had for each of our waffles!

Personally I like the texture of the waffles, it's not as airy crunchy, but more cake-like. So it's kinda chewy and there's a delicious aroma. And the best part is, you don't get that greasy taste and smell from usual waffles. But the surface is still slightly crunchy and goes well with the ice cream and toppings.

Black sesame and Chocolate Ice Cream
Marshmallow Walnut
Chocolate Ganache
Salted Egg Yolk Sauce

Mine
Original Waffles
Mango and Chocolate Ice Cream
Chocolate Ganache
Meringue Kisses
Cream Cheese Sauce

Gotta say Mango and Choco wasn't a good combo haha. They are delicious ice creams on their own but I have to accept the fact that they are just not meant for each other haha. Other than that, loving the cream cheese sauce which is more like paste actually haha. Super fragrant and yummy. The choco ganache and meringue kisses add the right amount of sweetness.

Cousin Vince's
Matcha Waffles
Earl Grey and Chocolate Ice Cream
Meringue Kisses
Pistachio
Maple Syrup

seriously, I can look at this all day...

but oh well, good things might end bad :P
The disaster after digging into these pretty waffles haha

Yummy waffles aside, the cafe is sure to be a go-to place for ladies. White tables, white walls, floor length windows the minimalist interior is great for awesome photos. We were lucky enough to get the seat at the wall of plants.
had my mortar board with me haha...
gotta snap for the ocassion

Me: Sis I grad liao!!!
Cousin: You have no idea what you're heading towards.

hehe photographer of the day! Cousin Zack who's back from the states.

okay last one liao

ok last last one

alright really last oneeeee!

Anyways if you love desserts but don't want something too heavy, I really think the waffles here have the right balance. Go have your waffles in your own way!

Lady M @Orchard Central and The Sushi Bar @Takashimaya

Visited Orchard Road several times in the previous month to check out the Christmas Illuminations. Awesome night outs with some delicious treats with the dear friends. Here's some recent food finds to share with you guys!

1. Lady M @ Orchard Central

Lady M is no new name to locals, this outlet at Orchard Central have always caught my eye whenever I visit Orchard Road in the past. I like how it has floor length windows which gives a view of the bustling and happening Orchard Road, while you can sit back and enjoy yummy mille crepe with your friends. Honestly, I don't shop at Orchard malls, so a place like THIS, would be perfect for a day out with friends.

Green Tea Mille Crepe -- S$9.00
Love this version of Green Tea desert. I don't like it when the Green Tea is too strong and ends up giving a bittery taste. But this one is just nice, with the mild scent of matcha, the creme was surprisingly light and not too sweet.

Signature Mille Crepe -- S$9.00
Love this as well! It's one of those very simple yet satisfying cream flavor, so sinful but just can't resist haha. Usually I couldn't finish half a mille crepe, but these two, we were able to sweep all without feeling sick.

Latte -- S$6.00
Earl Grey Lavender -- S$6.00

2. The Sushi Bar at Ngee Ann City

At the rather quiet corner of Ngee Ann City is this Japanese restaurant where you'll see almost every table has a plate of sashimi. Gotta say this is not your usual sushi bar, forget the usual salmon nigiri or oyako don, the menu has many interesting dishes. I guess sashimi or aburi seems to be the main star, there's literally a sushi bar, with all the fresh looking sashimi cuts on display. It's abit pricey though, but not disappointing at least.

dinner date of the day, it's been so long since we have a proper catch up. Finally, a meal without talking about work!

Scallop Mentaiyaki -- S$14.90
Mentai can never go wrong, this is so good hahahaha. Slippery and slightly chewy scallop, seasoned with the delicious and slightly burnt taste of mentai sauce. Like like like!

Aburi Salmon Don -- S$22.90
It's like a more satisfying version of aburi salmon sushi. More salmon strips and you can load a mouthful of vinegar rice into your mouth hehe.

Dragon Roll -- S$25.90
I'm a fan of maki rolls with crunchy filling. This is tasty, with buttery avocado and mayonaisse, together with the crunchy shrimp. Nice!

3. Haidilao Hotpot 海底捞 at 313 @Somerset

Just a short review, finally get to try the much raved haidilao hotpot that has attracted long waiting lines. I've heard they have the best service but turns out, I feel extremely uncomfortable because of this "best service" haha, really not use to it. But gotta say the staffs are very very friendly and it really does give a better dining experience. Love the wide range of sauces, I personally love the mushroom sauce hehe. The soup were great too, personally prefer the tomato soup base over the mushroom one. Three of us spent around S$120 which includes one serving of pork belly and one serving of black pork, plus some veggies, mushrooms, fish paste, deep fried fish skin. And also, we ordered three servings of the House Made Noodles, which comes with a live noodle making show LOL. We were stuffed when we left.

And that's my dear UTAR unimate who came to SG to visit us.

The Hare @ Mount Austin

Hey readers, sorry for the MIA, been busy despite exams are over. And before I knew it, Christmas is already over. Anyway, feels good to be back to blogging, and I have so much to share!!! But as usual....gotta update my JB Cafes list and this time, a visit to bunnyland...

The Hare by Sugar On Top @ Mount Austin

Classic Churros -- RM12.90
Personally, I prefer this over their much raved signature waffles. It's crunchy, yet fluffy on the inside, with a burst of the sweet vanilla taste. Very addictive flavor to me.

SOT Signature Charcoal Waffles -- RM17.90
If you're looking for something healthy and instagrammable, this has to be it. The waffles were nicely cooked, but I'm not sure how the charcoal makes it more special than normal waffles, healthier maybe? The fruits does make me feel less guilty about eating this dessert haha. Blueberry ice cream was delicious!

Iced Americano -- RM7.90
I became a fan of Americano these days, thanks to 2 days 1 night haha.

Green Tea Milk -- RM9.90

with the sis

Life is good when you have two ladies delighting in sinful desserts haha

Personally think The Hare is a great place for an afternoon dessert, love its bright and homey interior, white walls, with plenty of sunlight in. The outdoor area has a garden concept which compliments its name "The Hare".

Oh Don't Forget to take a photo with The HARE!

With an opposite vibe against the Hare, is The Workshop Cafe and Bar by Gran Fiesta in Mount Austin as well. The dimly lit interior with metal chairs, kinda like some secret society meeting ground haha. Forgive me, I forgot the name of what I ordered. But I would love to recommend this place if you love burgers and always find other shops offering too small of a portion.

I forgot the exact name but this is a Grilled Chicken Burger. and this is no ordinary chicken burger, more like Chicken Chop with Buns and Wedges. They pretty much put a chicken chop in a burger! Result: Super Full Belly

My cousin's burger with nacho cheese.

Americano again hehe, though I was abit shocked by the presentation, but I guess it serves the "workshop" theme.

Will visit again, especially when I have a very empty stomach haha.

Another semester gone and it's my final winter break :( Back at home sweet home now and it kills me to think that I wouldn't be able to come back as frequent as I wish. #hardtruthsofworkinginaforeignsoil To you people who are staying with your parents, be grateful and treasure your precious moments together.

On Christmas Day, I went to visit my granma who suffered a stroke recently. Saw her small figure, lying on the white bed, with tubes attached to her nostrils. She can be heard but none of us can understand her. But she still smiled when I look into her eyes. And at that moment, there was an instant surge of sorrow mixed with joy that made me almost teared up. Part of me feels sad for her condition, lying on a bed facing four walls and no one to talk to most of the time. Especially for a woman who has been so vocal all her life. There was nothing I can do for her. But at the same time I just feel grateful that she's still alive and smiling at me, she's been so brave and strong, and she's been making good progress in recovery. Just hope she will be able to recover asap and return home for CNY. We may not have one of those super-close granma-granchildren relationship, but she's still my dad's mother, without her, there's no me, can't wait to hear her calling my name again. But at the end of the day, all I could think of is to Thank God for His blessings, how He's been looking after my family despite me being away from them. Thank you and Thank you. :)

Christmas is the season to feel awesome about buying stuffs with cute packaging hahahahah
eyhhh in my defense, they are not for me k, most of them are gifts :D
