Thank you, Convocation

Haizz after convocation, it's like waking up from a sweet dream :( back to mundane life but oh well, there should always be special events in life to keep you motivated. throughout our ordinary days.

And it's not right to not pen down this very special day.

Part of me kind felt like convocation shouldn't be a big thing, afterall I have completed my studies months ago, I have already started working. Whatever that is worth celebrating is already in the past. What's the big deal of convo? The only reason why I look forward to convo was just because I get to have two days off work hahahhahahah. But oh well, as pointless as it seems, as tiring as it seems, as superficial as it seems, I am grateful of this day.

On a fine Thursday, woke up in the morning, triple-checked on my robes and invitation card, with flowers and balloons in my hand, my feet on my favorite pair of pumps, head out the house, thinking about meeting my family and friends, thinking about how to not pokai on stage, thinking about the moment. Was all smiles when I met up with my parents at the dimsum building, manage to show them around and took some photos over there. Then it's the ceremony at Nanyang Auditorium, the place where we first had our Freshman Welcome Ceremony, where we wore the academic dress as well. Time really does fly. As if the ambience wasn't enough to bring back memories, there was this graduation video that had tears welled up in my eyes. It was a girl, visiting the many places in NTU and it really struck me that I'm never gonna be sitting in those tutorial rooms anymore, I'm never gonna be listening to all the knowledge from the smart folks and I'm never gonna be hanging out at the canteens with friends. It's never going to be the same...  But oh well after that, the inevitable part of convocation comes: the certificate presentation. God will not let me have an easy day, my pumps decided to stretch its mouth at the very last minute. Was praying hard in my head that my shoes won't fall apart and I will not trip or do anything silly. And just as I imagine, that moment on stage happened in a blur. I can barely remember anything tbh. After that, sorry to my fellow graduates but I really fell asleep haha. When it's finally the end, time to make good use of technology and just grab whoever you know and snap photos.

Being away from home, I have heavily relied on this bunch of coursemates for a lot of support, both emotionally and intellectually haha. They are the reason why everything is okay, nothing can be bad with them. From sharing tutorial answers to random chats over lunch. Thanks for all the help and company. My life would have been so damn dull without you guys.

Really hope more good things will happen to this bunch of kind souls.

Also grateful to have met this junior (along with others who weren't here) in university. Friendly and fun people whom you can share your thoughts with.

another group of friends whom I had known since the beginning of university.

The Taiwan Exchange bunch! Though we may not be the closest friends, but I truly am grateful for the memories we shared. Exchange life is something that I'll never forget.

Winnie the FYP group mate!! Missing Bryan who is enjoying in BKK now. I thought my social circle was pretty much stagnant but these two awesome peeps came into my final year. I really appreciate the conversations that we had, especially all the 交心 ones haha. And so much funny stuff to talk about. It's amazing how we became so close,  hope for the best for both of you!

The MCKL buddy T T
words cannot express how gamdong I am to have you here. Feel so guilty that I didn't attend yours. But what's more, is realizing how much you have put into our friendship. Thanks for always being the one to jio me out every now and then and also always tolerating with my attitude haha. And of course to Vienna who couldn't make it, thanks for sending your kind wishes! Grateful for our occasional meet-ups in SG, you guys are also support-team!

Finally of course, the people whose love formed the very foundation of me. Even though there are times where the walls get shaky, there were also times where the walls broke down, but I never lost myself because they will always be a part of my existence. I know I have taken your love for granted. Despite putting studies, work and friends in between us, you guys never gave up to hold me tight. Thanks for staying healthy and safe, thanks for trying to take away all my worries. Studying away from home has really shown me the power of family. Love you all so so much and I cannot imagine how would I survive without you, my Daddy Mummy and Gor.

Finally, praise the Lord for this wonderful journey. If my family was the foundation, God would probably be the music in me. You can't see it, but you can totally hear it and feel it. Thanks for listening to all my prayers and blessing all the people I care for. Thanks for always assuring me that life is good and there's nothing to fear of. When I was weak, thanks for always finding a way to tell me I'm strong and I have the power to be happy. When I was evil, thanks for encouraging me to be kind. I hope I am living the way you want me to and I promise I will try to be a better person.

I'm a lucky girl.
You know part of me keep telling myself: "Convo oni maaaaa" "Walao everyone oso got degree larrr, daisaiii arrr" "There's nothing to be proud of." But after convo ended, I went to bed with all the playbacks in my head. It wasn't just about getting yourself a "sand paper", it was a journey that has shaped my perspectives to life and people, an important gift to my very existence. These four years have taught me how to be happy more than the previous 20 years in my life. Whatever external or internal force it may be, there has been constant knocking down of my walls and I'd learnt to pick the pieces up on my own. Building brick by brick with loads of happy and fun memories with the people I met here, decorating with interesting experiences and knowledge about the world. Totally received much more than what I asked for. I'm grateful for this opportunity, and once again, Thank God for making this happen despite the odds.

The Sugar Pantry @ Taman Molek, JB

Bon Appetit!
Yoohoo....back to after exam cafehop
Okay not exactly cafehop this time compared to last years'
Lil cousin brother is now in the states :( No one to drive us around for cafehop edi
Miss him...
Anyhow I was only back in JB for one night, just wanted to pay a visit to the elders and of course my cousins.

The Sugar Pantry 菓之堂 @Taman Molek, JB

Met up with the cousins and they decided to take me to a bakery/dessert cafe nearby their house, the ever bustling Taman Molek....This bakery serves French desserts and pastries that are rather unique and rare compared to usual coffee shops and neighbourhood bakery out there. Have been reading reviews about their first outlet in Permas Jaya. With the recent bursts of hipster cafes that majors in specialty coffee, it's been a while since we heard people rave about sweet desserts....unless it's extraordinary of course. I would say the plus point of The Sugar Pantry is their beautiful, special and delicious desserts.

When I first stepped in, it's hard to not have your eyes glued on the display counter. Well there weren't much choices (which I think is because they have just opened recently) as compared to the ones I'd seen from reviews of the Permas Jaya outlet, but the desserts are certainly beautifully decorated with much creativity and precision. Too bad I couldn't try all of them despite my ignorance to diabetes, and to be honest the price is not exactly affordable.

The ground floor is the bakery while the first floor has seats for dine-in customers
We chose a seat right next to the window.
The interior of the shop doesn't really look like French bakery though, more like Japanese bakery with a lot of light wood tones (like those in Pavillion Tokyo street)

I guess this outlet has a different concept to the one in Permas Jaya which is more western and has a signboard that looks like Tifanny and Co's

La Pomme -- RM 11.90 (Left)
Instead of a cake, it's more like a bar of fruity sweetness
Pomme is actually apple and this treat has a very fruity taste with slight acidity from the apple which balances the sweet tasting cream...The layers are sort of like mousse with different texture
This something rather unique in my opinion
Paris Brest -- RM11.90 (Right)
This is yummy!!! It's something like fluffy and crunchy croissants stuffed with fresh and smooth chocolate cream!
Love the mild sugarry flavor and the blend of texture
Like Like

Latte -- RM9.50

Flatwhite -- RM9.50
Taste okay, smooth and milky...the coffee used don't really have a bitter aftertaste.

Specialty Tea: Violet -- RM7.50
This is surprisingly nice...
The tea actually taste sweet and nope there's no sugar provided. Just an aromatic tea with sweet floral notes. But sorry I'm not expert enough to tell what flowers are used in the tea.

LOL what's dat face

The cafe has a lot of earth tones and check out the ceiling covered with draping cloths
the ground floor bakery is really spacious. There weren't much bread and pastries on display on that day... hope there will be more next time.

In conclusion, I think The Sugar Pantry is a great place to have delicious, music-on-your-tongue kind of dessert. The cafe has a very calm and serene ambience unlike those hipster cafe nowadays, probably a more unique afternoon tea experience.

After having our afternoon tea, cousin brother had swimming class and we decided why not following him and become 陪游
Of course I don't mean follow him into the waters la...
Instead we just hang out and wander around the atas-looking clubhouse
and did some photoshoot haha...

Pretty right my cousin
No filter de lerrr

with the sister...
I had a badskin day emooo

The little cousin/dolphin

Macam yes...

So dats pretty much part 1 for my short stay at JB
Went dinner with the granma and aunt at night where they took us to the musical fountain that I mentioned in previous post...
Went back home, enjoyed TV in granma's room
and went to bed at 12am... 12 A.M I can't believe it haha....I forgot when was the last time I slept so early
Thanks to cousin brother's comfy bed, I had a really good sleep and it's like heaven really...
Grateful for this short escape.

Anyways small 插曲 here...skip this paragraph if you just wanna read about the food haha...
I left rather early in the morning, thinking I could reach earlier and spend more time at cousins home :Yes watching TV and lying down on a comfy bed in cousin's house is like heaven to me haha
So I took the bus, eager to cross the border. But FML I left my MY SIMcard in my room... well I was still in Pioneer when I realize it and I thought it wouldn't kill too much time to go back and grab it coz usually it takes at most half an hour for me to reach my room from Pioneer MRT. Staying positive, I took the bus back and as usual, I went down at the Hall 1 busstop, where I will walk from there instead of taking the bus for one whole loop to reach my hall's bus stop. and the moment I came down, FML it started raining, oops sorry POURING! So heavily raining that you really just can't walk through it plus the last thing I want is to fall sick while I'm at JB. Well the positive me told myself no worries, there should be a covered walkway to reach my hall. So I started walking and when I'm halfway through, FML again, the covered walkway was closed as there was renovations going on. Desperate to find a solution I was lucky to meet a friend and he too was heading out. I asked to borrow an umbrella from him but he can't lend me as he needs to go to his exam as well. haizzzz sadd....I tried to look around and see if I have any friends staying around the area but well with the limited amt of friends i have haha....luck is not on my side. What to do, FML I walked all the way back to the busstop and went through the stations in a loop to reach my hall. "fuhhh finally reach my hall, ok it's over...", My positive me reminded myself, and the moment I said this, FML the rain got smaller, like much MUCH SMALLER. Small enough for me to walk through it without any fuss... Yep all this...wasted around 2 hours of my life...But at least, some lessons learnt haha
Haizzz if I hasn't be so cheapskate to alight at the first bus stop but chose to stay in the bus until it reaches my hall.... I would have saved all the time and would have remained barely soaked. Alright I think the main lesson is....when luck is not on your side, things can get worse than you could ever expect. But hey, you just gotta stay positive coz there will always be an end to it. When it's over, you gonna think to yourself I actually survived it and it's not a big deal after all despite the constant urge to curse during the whole process.

Musical Fountain at Taman Merdeka Johor Bahru

Just gonna share some photos here!

Exam was over and I couldn't wait to visit my cousins and my aunt and my granma :D
Thanks for treating me with good food and driving us around even though it's just a 2 days trip.
Heard about the just-opened-first-ever musical fountain in JB and we decided to pay a visit right after dinner. The musical fountain is located at Taman Merdeka, somewhere near Thistle Hotel JB.

The showtimes are 9pm and 10pm. Each show is around half an hour. When we arrive at the park at 10pm, the place was crowded! Certainly this fountain is a new attraction for locals and tourists, there's barely any space for parking. Lucky enough we managed to park on the roadside. Granma and aunt watched from the car while 3 of us just couldn't wait to rush down to the lake side to catch the beautiful sight of light and sound. I don't really know all the songs played, but there are some classical music and some popular English and Malay songs.

Well I doubt this is a place that I want to go again considering the difficulty to get a parking. But it's worth watching it for once. The bright and colorful lights and the majestic splash of water. Can't really take my eyes of them.  The fountain and lights' rhythm syncs with the vibrant music, creating a lively yet fantasy-like image.

The park seems to be a nice place. Great place for people to have a short walk after dinner but I remember there were some mosquitoes though. Btw I remember there's a very beautiful bridge across the lake, but it was close. Hope they open it soon heheh...It would be nice to view the fountain show from there.

Anyways do come early if you are driving. Parking maybe difficulty to get.

Boxing day -- Afternoon Tea at Majestic Hotel and Shopping at Paradigm Mall

Trying out da blogger app for the first time! Seems convenient for short posts.
Anyways gonna share ytd day out with the parents. Went afternoon tea at The Majestic Hotel. Of course not because i turned "fut tai" la! Courtesy of my previous job, i had 4 afternoon tea vouchers which were going to expire in 2 weeks time.
After the super filling tea time, went paradigm mall to window shop with mom heh. Selfied summore lol
Love the red velvet cupcake with cheese frosting!
Well it's a first for me and my parents to dine together in such a ATAS environment.
We can't really laugh or talk like how we usually do LOL
so conclusion, atas places are not for us haha
Read my previous experience here.

Love this shop
It's called The Red's Revenge if I'm not wrong
themed around Red Riding Hood and the wolf.
Love the accessories there, and it's actually affordable!!

Ipoh Trip with the Dad and Mum : Ong Kee 安记芽菜鸡沙河粉, Funny Mountain 奇峰 TauFuFa, Lim Ko Pi 啉咖啡

Hey there, finally another short day trip with loudao and mama
well I'm really grateful that we actually have time to go out together
At first, I was kinda in a dilemma. I love to go out and travel, and I hope I can spend more time with my parents, but at the same time, the new year holiday is like the only time where my parents can sit back and rest before continuing with all the everyday work. Despite my adventurous will, I really thought that I should just let my parents stay home and rest, instead of going out into the hot sun to travel. However, daddy mummy insisted that we go. TT.TT I know they are trying to make me happy. Thanks ba & ma.

So, where to? Well my mom is not much an adventurer, and my dad, too old to be adventurous haha....
so we decided to go Ipoh for some food retreat.

Come Ipoh don't eat this wan, can go bang wall edi! haha
1. Restoran Ong Kee 安记芽菜鸡沙河粉
the representative food of Ipoh, Nga Choi Gai/Tauge Chicken/Chicken and Beansprouts
usually tourist would go to Lou Wong 老黄
but we decided to go to the less crowded one next door.
And there's air cond haha, perfect for a hot day :D

they probably used kampung chicken 菜园鸡
so the meat is kinda tough, very hard to chew
But thumbs up for the light seasoning, with very fragrant sesame oil

Ipoh's locally grown beansprouts
see, they are all so fat and watery
super crunchy and has a mild sweet refreshing taste
the soy sauce and sesame oil enhances the flavor as well

another Ipoh specialty: Horfun 河粉
i call it the skinny kuayteow
like the soup and also the texture of the HorFun
thin and slightly chewy

We ordered, two bowls of HorFun and one plate of rice, together with the half-chicken and beansprouts above. The bill costs RM30.50

Ong Kee 安记芽菜鸡沙河粉
51, Jalan Yau Tet Sin
30300 Ipoh
Perak

Next, time for a Tau Huay Break!
Within walking distance from the Nga Choi Gai restaurants, you'll find the one of a kind Funny Mountain 奇峰 Taufufa, made famous by their super smooth and fragrant taufufa and also their pioneering taufufa drive-thru service.

there will be people who come to your car to take orders and deliver them to you immediately.
efficient service :D
We bought two Taufufa and one Soy Bean Milk (RM2.00)

TauFuFa 传统豆腐花 -- RM2.00
we dabao, so it's more expensive
it's still not enough weih, i could finish at least 2 bowls of these
love the soft texture, it really does melt in your mouth, but it's not like Singapore's LaoBan
taste more traditional

Funny Mountain 奇峰
49, Jalan Theatre,
30300, Ipoh, Perak

While enjoying our TauFuFa, dad drove around the Ipoh streets, lined up with beautiful neoclassical buildings, love the architecture. Old school shops that you can hardly find in KL now, like Kopitiams, Dried Goods store, Chinese Medicine store... when I say old school, I mean those that have all the old shelves, no air-cond and all the products are packed tightly, and they use bamboo blinds....

After that, we decided to have coffee break hehe
At Lim Ko Pi 啉咖啡, situated at one of the main roads of Ipoh town
Parking was a problem, but we were lucky enough to find one nearby.

anyways, upon stepping into Lim Ko Pi, you feel like you just walked into a cosy and nostalgic kopitiam, with wooden furnitures, dim lighting and of course, the supersize mirrors. The interior kinda resembles OldTown WhiteCoffee, but given that the shop lot is an ancient building, the nostalgic vibe is definitely more prominent.

 Old school never die!
great variety of food! From local main course to snackbites, desserts to our favorite local kopitiam drinks. This is the perfect place if you wanna try out all the famous local delights in one go.

the old school steel mug to hold cutlery

Red Bean Soup -- RM2.00
nice! it has green bean as well!
Love the crunchy beans and smooth sago.
and it has a natural sweetness, not over-ly sweet.

Pumpkin Custard Bun -- RM1.80/pc
Interesting combination, the custard filling is not the very heavy type
just mild sweet and creamy to compliment the sweet pumpkin bun outside.

Dry Curry Mee with Roasted Pork, Char Siew and Shredded Chicken 三色干咖喱云吞面 -- RM5.50
basically u can customize the noodle
you can choose what meat, what type of noodle, what type of soup/gravy
so we chosed dry curry with wanton noodles.
Love this really much, not just because of the price haha
the awesome sweet and spicy curry and quite generous portion of roast pork and charsiew.
noodles are crunchy too!

Ipoh White Coffee -- RM2.30
it was suppose to be very frothy haha, but my dad just sipped immediately before I take a photo of it.
anyways, it's really smooth and we love the aroma
plus it comes with HupSeng biscuits
dip them into the coffee!! it's just old goodness haha

Cham -- RM2.40
also with 2 pcs of biscuits
cham can never go wrong la really
very smooth and the coffee taste quite rich!

love the environment, we just stayed there for more than an hour, slowly enjoying our food
taking in the atmosphere
the staffs are very friendly as well...
but there's a lot of things that we wished to order but were sold out on that day
you might wanna come early next time.

great place to hang out with friends and family

my parents and I had a joke, if our family decides to open a coffee shop, then it will be Choong Ko Pi 冲咖啡 hahahhahaha :P

Lim Ko Pi 啉咖啡
10, Jalan Sultan Iskandar
30000 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia.
Tel No : 605-253 2898
Business hours : 8am – 3pm daily.
Closed on Mondays.

Something extra here...
The famous Cempedak Cake!
mom randomly walked into a Kopitiam and saw two women lining for these
the two women are Ipoh locals and recommended this delicious cake, which is very famous among the locals. So mom bought it hehe and it taste good!!!
Fluffy and moist, and the awesome taste and aroma of cempedak that fills your nostrils and mouth immediately!!

Get this at Hoong Tho Restaurant 鸿图酒楼
20, Jalan Bandar Timah,
30000 Ipoh, Perak, Malaysia.

That's the food part, thought we intended the trip to be more like a food trip,we did visited some Ipoh sites as well....here comes the photos...

The Ipoh Railway Station
one of the most prominent and beautiful buildings in Ipoh
I must say it looks very well preserved from the shining white exterior
beautiful archways and windows

The City Hall
another beautiful building indeed
awesome heritage

oh ya it was a really hot day
despite being the rain season

 Perak Tong (Cave) 霹雳洞
Temple in an ancient stone cave
it's hot as hell outside, but the moment u step in, it's just so cooling

water falling off

i use to be super afraid of that statue...

pretty cave paintings...

well we left early, around 3 something go back home edi, coz i hope my parents can get more rest before they work tmr. Though it's just a few hours journey, it was a very fun one indeed, good food cures everything haha. Even better when you have the two most important people in your life right beside you. While driving on the streets, we discovered more interesting restaurants and pretty much mapped out our following trip :D Can't wait to come back here soon.

Btw, thanks daddy for driving us around, must be tiring for u to drive on the highway while I sleep like a pig behind.

Love Nuffnang
