Raya Hols Part 2

Kays this part two will be more like a food journal...well okay it IS A JOHOR FOOD JOURNAL HEHE
so yeap, continue from part one, went south to Johor Bahru aka my cousin's hse on tuesday
Went to Universal Studios Singapore on the following day

Will blog about the full story in the next post

but before heading to Sentosa
had breakfast in JB first
A treat from uncle hehe
had Dimsum @ Kak Kak Restaurant 佳佳点心

Siu Mai 烧麦, Har Gao 虾饺 and Otak-Otak 乌达
Siu mai is delicious, chewy and yummy. Har Gao, okok, crunchy prawn inside.
Otak otak is the best haha....maybe because I just Love otak otak...
there's sweet and sour siu mai as well, which I didn't take photo, it's really good!

Raddish Cake 萝卜糕 on the right.
The rice on the left, i dunno what is it called, it's not Loh Mai Kai (糯米鸡)
it's really the normal white rice that we eat instead of glutinous rice.
it's delicious weih, the taste is similar, but less heavy than loh mai kai, and it's crunchier.
Raddish cake was good, crunchy on the outside, chewy on the inside.

 Milo

Basically the DimSum over there is quite good and the price is quite affordable.
Around 8 plates of Dimsum and 3 drinks only cost us about RM25.

Kak Kak Restaurant 佳佳点心楼
8, Jalan Maju,
Taman Maju Jaya,
Johor Bahru.

The next day, stayed home and watched movies and tv shows. Especially the ones from Singapore Channels hehe....why, coz Sg channels usually don't censor or cut their shows... yes I hate it when all the most gan jiong and most epic scenes are being cut, which is the case in Malaysia. :(

At night, went supper with cousins and our beloved Aunt Michelle @ Station One Taman Molek
Aunt Michelle is like the person that we can talk like friends and ask for help whenever we need her.
Her bedroom has been the gathering place for we children ever since we're young....
anyways, talked a lot about our past, laughed so bad i tell you!! Thunder strike Station One mannn

Lavender Milk Tea - RM5.90
Something new, but no surprise, it really is lavender tea with milk
But I've been a fan of lavender tea, so I love this drink anyway. hehe...

Ice Blended Mocha
quite nice, the ice is blended smoothly and it doesn't taste like it's too diluted.

Joseph and his Caramel Machiato
and he said it's 黑糖玛奇朵

Deep Fried Squid Rings - RM10.90
quite nice, very crunchy and very large rings in fact
but as u can see, very small portion

Wedges! RM7.90
The all time favorite
crunchy, crispy and delicious.

Egg and Ham Sandwich with Chips - RM10.90
Nothing special, but quite yummy. The egg was delicious. One slice wasn't enough.

The ambience was great, good place for gatherings...
according to the staff, there will be live performances on Monday, Friday and Saturday.

Station One Leisure Cafe @ Taman Molek
No 78, Ground Floor,
Jalan Molek 2/2,
Taman Molek,
81100 Johor Bahru.

Go to Station One's website for list of other outlets :

And the next day, friday, hehe
went to AEON Tebrau City with the cousins for a movie...
PREMIUM RUSH was the pick
had lunch before the movie at Ichiban Ramen

Ebi Curry Don Set - RM 21.00
The set includes gyoza (dumplings), a miso soup and fruit.
the rice is abit disappointing, too sticky.
The best thing is the tempura prawns, that's all.

The fried dumplings (Gyoza) included in the set
Quite okay...but I wished it could be crunchier.

Tenshin Don - RM12.00
Is like omurice with gravy hehe
the gravy is nice, probably made from soy sauce, goes well with plain rice...

Ichiban Ramen
S45, AEON Tebrau City
Jalan Desa Tebrau,
Johor Bahru 81100.

There are other outlets in Selangor and Penang too, but there's no website. Do search for it.

Lastly, a dessert to share with my cousins
Macaroons from El Migoz

6 Macaroons at RM12.50
flavor includes, lemon, coffee, choc, strawberry, green tea and the blue one which i dunno what flavor it is.
I know, so pretty and cheap right??
but sorry to say, it's not really nice...
I thought you cant go too different when it comes to macaroons
but I was wrong :(
the coffee flavor was nice, others were just okay...

anyways, El Migoz is a Mexican Restaurant
there's other desserts such as cupcakes and mini cakes..

El Migos
Ground Floor AEON Tebrau City
No.1, Jalan Desa Tebrau,
Taman Desa Tebrau,
81100 Johor Bahru, Johor

then Saturday, had lunch with my family at Shun Fa Bak Kut Teh 顺发肉骨茶
Yes, BKT is not only hit in Klang, but JB as well
you can find many BKT Restaurants
Sorry I didn't take any photos, but I really wanna recommend this shop.
Really delicious bak kut teh at a affordable price.
Here's the address
Jalan Permas 10/6
Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru.

Then sunday...time to head home
left JB at 12pm to avoid the jam
had lunch in Yong Peng
福瑞兴餐厅 正宗福州面
Hock Swee Hin Restaurant

had their famous FooChow Noodles and FooChow Fish Balls

Delicious FooChow Fish Ball Soup (with pork stuffed inside)
love the chewy texture and the soup
they put lots of spring onions and shallots, which I like hehe...

 The FooChow Noodle
The noodles were okok oni, I think they didn't put enough black sauce, it didn't taste the same as before...
but the pork is nice, well marinated... still taste good.

Address below...

Next, went to Eng Hin Local Delicacies Shop to buy some local products especially FooChow specialties
Mommy bought who-knows-how-many packs of noodles, from mee suah to foochow noodles...*smackhead* The noodles are made by Eng Hin itself.
for me, I was attracted to the nice aroma of bread
then saw this flat and round bread that just got out of the oven...
the scent is like....awesome!!
asked mummy to buy immediately...

I dunno what exactly is this bread called, but you can find it right away in the shop, coz they made the bread in the shop.
It's a FooChow traditional bread btw

There are several flavors, got the plain one, wheatflour, sesame, and peanut butter filling.
I like the plain one, it's crunchy and unlike normal breads that has a very soft and bouncy texture, the bread is actually very dense and chewy. Obviously they didn't add any type of flour rising agents.
It's around RM0.60 - RM0.70 per piece. depending on the flavor.
Delicious anyway :D

there's other kinds of bread and local products up for sale...

A peek at the bread factory right next to the shop.

Eng Hin Bakery and Noodles
14 Jalan Besar
Yong Peng
Johor

Hock Swee Hin is on the same street as Eng Hin, just a few lots away.
I guess the shop number is 2 or 4 since it's the 2nd shop from the end of the road.

Don't miss this 2 shops as they are the must-visit place in Yong Peng which has a major number of FooChow people.

Hehe awesome food trip in Johor throughout the weekend.
Now, short review of Premium Rush

Basically the story is about a bicycle messenger who is chased around New York City by a dirty cop who wants an envelope the messenger has.
Starring Joseph Gordon Levitt hehe the cute guy from Inception and Dark Knight.
Really gotta praise him and other actors who cycled so so much in the movie...
For 3 quarters of the movie, u see people cycling, and most of them is Joseph Gordon Levitt.
I'm quite sure he did most of the scenes himself...

anyways, the story line is simple...in fact I didn't really understand the value of the "ticket"
the main focus is on the 90 minutes journey where he had to deliver the mail while being chased by both the bad guys and the cops. and he had to encounter the busy New York streets. Some might think it's boring, but I actually kinda like it.
It has a lot of energy and passion in this film, and also shows the details and emotions of a passionate cyclist who doesn't have a brake and only one gear on his bike. I feel like cycling again after watching it.
If you like thrills, chasing and racing, watch it!

Yes it's not my first trip to Bukit Tinggi but trust me, this time our trip is slightly different.

Day 1
My cousins came last saturday and we had lunch together at Organic Express, after that, we head towards Selesa Hill Homes @ Bukit Tinggi

Day 2 - Genting
just as usual, we went to Genting on the 2nd day and this time we went to the themepark
but so sad it rained, very very heavily! we've only been to the pirate ship and spinner, and our tickets just went to waste, just like that :(
while it was raining, the 21 yearold bday girl wanted to enter the casino, leaving us YOUNG people alone....sad :((((((
the kids went to the indoor arcade, while me and my teenager cousin Zach went to Starbucks @ Highlands hotel
but damn sad, couldn't even get a seat, our legs were really tired but we have to stand there and finish our coffee...saddddd...damn "beh song" all those people who took a table without buying a drink...i will never go there again :( I rather pay a lil bit more to enjoy a cup of coffee at Bubbles and Bites

Lunch @ Genting Theme Park Snack Kiosk
The Nuggets costs RM3.50 per stick, Chicken Burger is RM4.50
expensive, i know

After Genting, we went to Awana (again, just as usual)
had our Tea Break @ Golf Terrace
and of course, Pool time

The Nyonya Kuih was quite delicious, Teh Tarik was a bit too sweet
ordered their Laksa too, but so sad, it didn't taste as good as before :(

Day 3
It was 2nd day of Raya, Visited a Haji's house, who is a friend of my uncle, at Kuala Pilah, Negeri Sembilan.
Beautiful house, big family, some of the ladies were wearing Baju Kebaya and Baju Kurung that looked really really pretty, think I'm gonna buy one someday :D
and the best part of course, Raya Food baybeh!!!!!
They were barbeque-ing one whole lamb(kambing bakar) at the courtyard, and trust me the scent of spice and also the charcoal was so tempting.
Then looked at the table, the traditional ones were there, Nasi Lemak, Lemang and Ketupat, and also grilled chicken, sausages and chicken patties..feel so happy man, it's like my first time trying out all the traditional Malay food at once, at a traditional Malay's house. Yes, at that time, I had the "I Love Malaysia" moment again.

Nasi Lemak with Kambing Bakar and Tempe
The sambal was good, lots of onions which made it sweet and not too spicy.
The mutton was delicious, eventhough it takes some time and skills to chew it LOL
Very juicy and loaded with aromas of spices. Yum Yum! Love it.

Top left : Lemang, crunchy, taste awesome with the peanut sauce.
Right: Ketupat, very soft and chewy...there's a mild sweetness from the rice..
Bottom Left: Delicious raya cookies :D

Left Kuala Pilah in the afternoon and head towards Ampang area to visit a relative's house...
had a great time watching TV while enjoying delicious food.
and of course, played posed with the Antique but still working Phone.

after dinner, went to Times Square for shopping
of course I didn't shop, the others did, in fact, to be precise, it was shoe shopping since everyone bought shoes only LOL
Had dessert at Sweet Chills

Raspberry and Chocolate Frozen Yogurt
with funny toppings lol....yogurt balls, passionfruit balls, bear-shape marshmallow
Raspberry yogurt was good...chocolate one was abit too sweet...
btw, the two frozen yogurt cost RM26.00 in total.

ok, i cant swim, I was just hiding in the swimming pool lol

After leaving Bukit Tinggi, we went to Bentong, Pahang for lunch...
went to this cafe that sells iced desserts and Yong Tau Foo
Kow Po Coffee Shop 球宝咖啡屋
It was crowded and it wasn't just Chinese, but Malays as well!
so yea it's pork free and the desserts are delicious.

Cendol(Bottom-Left), Yong Tau Foo(Top-Right), RedBean and Corn Ice(Bottom-Right)
Yong Tau Foo was delicious, there's many variants of "FuChok", with different texture and taste respectively.
The Ice desserts were great, I like the red bean and corn one...
very crunchy corn and sweet red beans...plus a scoop of coffee ice cream...YumYum!
who cares if I had sorethroat?

Little Cravings @ 1 Utama

Remember in the previous post, I said I didn't buy anything, and it didn't last more than one day?
yes, went 1u again on sunday after meeting up with the girls on saturday....
this time, *countsmoney* I spent quite a bit, a BIG bit...despite the fact that I've been telling myself I will not buy anything anymore...
haiyooo but every corner of the mall has the big word, SALE
how to resist you tell me????

anyways, after buying some stuff
went to makan....
You know I'm such an Asam Laksa fan....if I see that shop got Asam Laksa, I wont think twice and just go in...so the spotted restaurant was Little Cravings @ LG Floor
which actually is sort of like, upgrade version of Nyonya Colors, run by Nyonya Colors as well...
I was thinking how this two shops can be so similar at first....
but of course the location is better coz it's a shop lot, quite well decorated one summore...

Snack first
Cucur Udang - RM2.40
Like this, very crunchy and strong shirmp flavor
one was definitely not enough!

Penang Asam Laksa - RM9.80
not bad...the fish is delicious
love the crunchy onions and pineapples
but the soup is a bit too spicy for me

anyways, the ambience was good, though it can be a lil bit crowded
there's air con so I dun have to worry about sweating too much after having Asam Laksa.

Little Cravings
LG320, Lower Ground Floor
1 Utama Shopping Centre
Bandar Utama
PJ

Go to Nyonya Colors Website to see the address of other Nyonya colors and Little Cravings outlets:
http://www.nyonyacolors.com/

Before that
had a refreshing drink first

Camellia Green Milk Tea @ Meet Fresh
Yummy...has a light taste

After that, shopped
bought a dress for RM50 at Brands Outlet
and this :

Magnetic Nail Polish and the Magnet from China Glaze @ Isetan
The DAMAGE : RM54 (Nail Polish : RM35, Magnet : RM19)
couldn't resist to buy it..
we tried out several brands that had this magnetic nail polish, such as Etude House, Bloop and Sasa
but this one had the best polish and fastest results
for others, I had to wait for at least more than 30 seconds before the pattern comes out...
this one was super fast!! around 10 seconds (just as stated on the packaging)
plus the magnet has 3 patterns unlike others which only had one
plus the sales assistant was very kind, she let us tried all the colors available...
how to resist u tell me?
well the polish was very smooth and easy to apply, n i checked it was made in USA and the brand is China Glaze LOL
but the magnet is indeed made in China haha

tryout
the arrow pattern, diagonal stripe, and star pattern..

Random:
Realize I've been buying a lot of Korean brand products recently...

On the left : The Egg soap and the two masks were from Holika Holika
centre : Tangerine Lip Color and Pumpkin Mask(gift from cousin) from Etude House
Right : Volume up lip gloss and Jeju Face Mist from The Face Shop
apart from the mask, which I havent use
others are like my fave items now..
I use the egg soap everyday, and it really helps in preventing blackheads
The mist is really nice...refreshing and helps to set make-up so that it last longer
Pink Lip Gloss, fell in love with the color.
Tangerine lip color is the best, now in my bag, use it whenever i go.

had make up on coz I had to take photo for passport
really feel like make up does wonders...
all my ugly whiteheads gone heehee
but it's so troublesome larr... :(

tomorrow is results day, hope I'll still be able to smile :(

Love Nuffnang
